The Big Issue : Edition 505
2 THEBIGISSUE19FEB–3MAR2016 “I’ve been a supporter of The Big Issue for a long time. I think it plays a fantastic role in connecting people who are disadvantaged with other people in society. I got a lot of counsel and support from Jeff while selling magazines. He’s great.” LOGO “I learned so much from my time with Deb this morning. It was a refreshing change to greet passers-by and Westpac staff wearing a Big Issue cap and fluoro vest rather than a suit. It reminded me how important it is to look at the person behind the outfit.” LOGO Westpac – David Lindberg, Chief Executive, Commercial & Business Bank, with vendor Deb “Phil and I met last year and we’ve kept in contact, so it was great to see him again. The hardest part is seeing how everyone walks past and pretends they can’t see you, even though you’re wearing a bright red hat and a bright yellow vest.” LOGO Telstra – Andy Penn, CEO, with vendor Jeff (left) Grocon – Carolyn Viney, CEO, with vendor Phil International Vendor Week, held in the first week of February, is an opportunity to recognise the work of the thousands of people who are striving to improve their lives through selling street papers each year. To help us celebrate this week, we invited business and political leaders from around Australia to take part in “CEO Selling” and swap their suit for a Big Issue vest. We were delighted to have over 80 leaders take part across the country and support this campaign. In total, they sold over 1800 magazines (helped, of course, by the support of our expert vendors!) On behalf of our vendors, we wish to thank all the CEOs, business executives and government leaders who took part. Here, Vendor Week Partners share their experiences.
