OUR FIRST NORTHERN TERRITORY VENDOR, DALE, SELLS EVERY SUNDAY AT THE NIGHTCLIFF MARKETS. WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN A CRISP DRY-SEASON DAY, A SERVING OF SUSHI AND A COPY OF THE BIG ISSUE? OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS Selling The Big Issue has allowed me a modicum of independence. I live in a government house with four other people with disabilities. We are supported by wonderful staff who look after our needs – except for financial support. My Big Issue customers have provided me with an avenue of financial independence in that I can now go into various shops and buy those things I would not normally buy. I’ve been able to paint my room blue, separate from the cream colour of the rest of the house. I have furnished my room with blinds and a DVD stand to house the DVDs I have bought. I can watch them on my new TV and new DVD player. Sometimes people give me a donation and don’t buy the magazine. I wish they would buy it, as it’s a great read! I would like my customers to feel they are now part of my new room. Thanks for your support. Tau T sells The Big Issue at Dickson, Woden and Nature Conservation House in Belconnen, Canberra. BIG THANKS I would like to say to all my customers in Brisbane: I’m still working for The Big Issue, but I’m in Melbourne for a few months. I look forward to seeing you all when I get back. Thank you to the staff in Brisbane for the hard work you do and thanks to the Melbourne staff for letting me work in your city. A big thank you to all the customers in both states. To all the vendors: keep up the good work! In Brisbane, Michael F sells The Big Issue at Tribal Theatres on George St and at the Boggo Rd Markets. In Melbourne, Michael sells in Port Melbourne. BIG IDEA Everyone should buy The Big Issue. It would take all our Big Issues away! Barry D sells The Big Issue at Queens Plaza, Brisbane. GOOD TIMES Just wanna thank all my customers for buying the mags off me. I am having a great time selling The Big Issue. I’m looking forward to meeting new people and selling some more mags in the coming years. Thanks, Big Issue! DJ sells The Big Issue at York and Market Sts, Sydney. PAST & PASSED Ugly grey stretches by, sealing past, to pass anon. This ribbon seals life, nature and time long gone. The future honks and hustles on. Fragile figment of finality. Passed the path, down the mall, framed by shops, passed half a decent tree. Life and time slither by with both the gleeful and the sad. A throng of eager ‘hunter gatherers’, hunt for bargains to be had. They stuff them in the modern dilly, the ubiquitous plastic bag. An age ago, on the ancient way, running from the river northward to the ridge. There beneath a primal shady tree. The clans at rest and the piccaninnies play. Just a moment’s musings, a wistful thought, A different time, a different map, a different way. A simple wish for a life well-earned, lived but never bought. Wayne sells The Big Issue at Fairfield, Melbourne. ALL OF US AND THE SAME WOMEN A visit for a roast meal on Saturday. She is still youthful about her emotions and outlook. Always being nice-natured to children in ways to be remembered. Sit down and find a cosy Place for all who’s present. The placemats the wine glasses and the coasters, are all placed. On the table. The excitement and celebration of Who’s coming for dinner. Maree sells The Big Issue at the Myer entrance of the Canberra Centre. WINNING GRIN Recently an anonymous person made a donation to the Wayside Chapel in Potts Point, asking that the money go towards getting my teeth fixed. Such phenomenal generosity is humbling and I would just like to say thank you to whoever it is. I am certain it is someone who buys magazines from me. I will have my smile back by the end of the month. Andrew W sells The Big Issue outside Woolworths at Potts Point, Sydney.
